Frequency Asked Questions
What is a Clean Truck Check (CTC)?
A Clean Truck Check (CTC) is an emissions test required by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for heavy-duty diesel trucks and RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds. The test measures the opacity (density of smoke) emitted by your vehicle’s exhaust system to ensure it meets CARB’s air quality standards.
Why do I need a Clean Truck Check for my truck or RV?
Starting January 1, 2023, all heavy-duty diesel trucks and RVs must be CARB compliant to operate in California. This includes having your vehicle’s emissions tested to ensure they meet CARB’s standards. If you don’t pass the test, your vehicle could face a DMV registration hold, enforcement citations, or fines.
How does your mobile Clean Truck Check service work?
We are a mobile service, meaning we come directly to your location to perform the emissions test on your truck or RV. There’s no need to drive to a testing facility. We provide the test using the same equipment that government agencies use, and we give you the results immediately after the test.
What areas do you service?
We serve all of California. Whether you’re at an RV park, truck stop, or at your business location, we will come to you for your Clean Truck Check.

Is a Smoke Check the same as a Clean Truck Check?
They mean the same thing.
What happens if my vehicle fails the Clean Truck Check?
If your vehicle fails the Clean Truck Check, you will need to address the emission issues before retesting. If you do not pass the test or fail to complete it, your vehicle may be tagged as “Non-Compliant.”
What types of vehicles require a Clean Truck Check?
Any diesel vehicle with a GVWR of 14,000 pounds or greater must undergo a Clean Truck Check to remain compliant with CARB regulations. This includes heavy-duty trucks, commercial vehicles, and motorhomes (RVs).
What are the benefits of using a mobile service?
Using our mobile service saves you time and hassle. We come directly to your location, whether you’re at a job site, truck stop, or RV park, eliminating the need to drive to a testing facility.
Is your service CARB-certified, Licensed and Insured?
Yes, our testing team is credentialed by CARB to perform the Clean Truck Check according to the state’s regulations. We use SAE J1667-compliant equipment and procedures, ensuring accurate results. We are a licensed business in the State of California and we are insured to $2,000,000 when working on testing and inspecting your vehicle.
What if I’ve received a "Notice to Submit" from CARB?
If you’ve received a “Notice to Submit” (NST) from CARB, it means your vehicle has been flagged for non-compliance. We can quickly help you meet CARB requirements by performing the Clean Truck Check and providing the necessary test results to resolve the issue.
What is the SAE J1667 Snap Acceleration Smoke Test?
The SAE J1667 Snap Acceleration Smoke Test is the protocol used to measure the opacity of smoke emitted from diesel vehicles. This test is part of the Clean Truck Check and is used to assess whether your vehicle’s emissions meet the legal standards set by CARB.
When do I need to have my vehicle tested?
Clean Truck Checks are required twice a year for truck and once a year for motorhomes to stay compliant with CARB regulations. If you are a truck or RV owner, make sure to get your vehicle tested up to 90 days before the “Test Date” to avoid fines or registration holds.
How long does the Clean Truck Check take?
Typically, the test will take about 15 minutes to an half an hour, depending on the vehicle. We perform a thorough inspection to ensure accurate results, and you will receive your emissions report immediately after the test.
What equipment do you use for testing?
We use government-certified, CARB-compliant opacity meters and onboard diagnostic (OBD) systems to test your vehicle’s emissions. Our equipment follows the SAE J1667, J1939 and J1979 standards and protocols for accuracy, ensuring that your results are valid and compliant.
What happens if I don't comply with CARB regulations?
If you fail to comply with CARB’s emissions testing requirements, your vehicle could face a registration hold, fines, and even be taken off the road. To avoid penalties, make sure your truck or RV undergoes the required emissions testing on time.
Do you offer tests for both OBD and non-OBD vehicles?
Yes, we offer testing for both OBD (Onboard Diagnostics) and non-OBD equipped vehicles. For newer models (2013+ or 2018+), we will capture emissions data using the OBD system, while older models will undergo the SAE J1667 Snap Acceleration Smoke Test.
Do you provide the emissions report right away?
Yes, once the test is complete, we provide an emissions report on the spot. You’ll receive your results immediately, with no waiting or delay.
Can you test my fleet of vehicles?

Do I need to be present during the test?
Yes, we prefer you to be present during the Clean Truck Check and inspection.
